about
The three hag sisters of the Hourglass Coven have taken over Prismeer and divided it into three regions - Hither, Thither, and Yon. The middle sister, Bavlorna presides over Hither, a dark, foreboding swamp, shrouded by mist. It's prowled by brigands, and the only settlement, Downfall, is populated with frog creatures called Bullywugs. Bavlorna, herself has become froglike and she can't stay away from water for long or risk her skin drying out. Her mouth hangs agape when she isn't speaking and flies flit in and out, which has earned her the nickname, "Slack-jawed Lorna."
This piece uses a croaking bassoon to represent her froglike appearance and behavior. Percussion represents her clumsy but still dangerous way of moving when her body begins to dry out. Bavlorna isn't to be taken lightly and there is a threatening tone to the piece throughout.
